Release description
While their sound has long been rooted in 80s synth-funk and boogie, Star Creature has, from time to time, been known to pay tribute to early Chicago house. The A-side of Parisian producer Serious A's label debut, 'Diagonal Wave', falls into this category. Propelled forwards by a lo-fi, mid-80s style Windy City drum machine rhythm, it sees her reach for undulating synthesiser melodies, TB-303 style bass and chords so deep and drowsy they could have been taken from a Mood Hut release. Over on side B, 'Songo Blu' is a more densely layered and immersive affair that blurs the boundaries between crackling early Chicago deep house, Damn Funk, lo-fi boogie beatmaker Onra and the usual Star Creature sound.
