Release description
The Funkin' Machine are the latest hot property to come out of Italian city Naples, with the band's line-up including members of such celebrated outfits as Nu Genea and Mystic Jungle. You can hear some echoes of those acts across their debut album, Napoletanite - at least in their use of spacey jazz-funk synths, layered percussion and nods to Balearic boogie - but for the most part it's an insatiably funky, floor-focused affair that draws plenty from space-funk, psych-funk and the groover end of the Afro-cosmic spectrum. It's colourful, vibrant, urgent and hugely entertaining - a future classic whose timeless and colourful sound offers more than mere nostalgia for the late 70s and early 80s.
