Release description
While Christian Soukup AKA Borrowed Identity has released plenty of fine solo music over the years, some of his most ear-catching and potent numbers have come alongside friend and regular studio buddy Mechanical Soul Brother. The pair's latest missive for Quintessentials is undeniably excellent, with lead cut 'Just Be Yourself' offering an enticing mix of soulful, Leroy Burgess style vocals, acid tweaks and jackin', Chicago style machine drums. The influence of Chicago, and Larry Heard's Mr Fingers project in particular, can also be heard on the wonderfully deep, dreamy, nostalgic and soulful 'Since That Day'. Over on side B, we get two takes on 'Point of No Return': the '2am' take, a melodious, shuffling and deliciously dreamy deep house workout underpinned by loose-limbed house breaks, and the smoother, chunkier and even more loved-up '6am' pass.
