Release description
Crate diggers and rare groove enthusiasts have long been fans of Elizio de Buzos' sole single, 'Tamanqueiro' - so much so, in fact, that the track has frequently been described as "the best Jorge Ben record that Jorge Ben never made". The record has long been tricky to find, hence this much-needed reissue on the Rush Hour-affiliated New Dawn label. The title track, which means 'clogmaker' in Portuguese, is an effortlessly funky fusion of jangling samba guitars, fast-fingered jazz-funk bass guitar, unfussy MPB drums and effervescent vocals from de Buzos. Over on the flip you'll find original B-side 'Sau Um Loco', an emotional, downtempo samba-soul number rich in luscious orchestration, twinkling electric piano and wide-eyed female backing vocals.
