Release description
For the first release on his self-titled imprint, New Jersey great Kerri Chandler has gone back to the future. The four tracks on show were all inspired by a particular period of his own musical heritage between the late 90s and late 2000s, when he released a number of much-loved EPs on NYC's Downtown 161 imprint. It's basically Chandler in colourful, warming and soulful hybrid garage-house/deep house mode. For proof, check the swinging and melody rich opener 'Mommy, What's a Record' and he thickset, early morning at the Shelter vibes of 'Downtown'. Elsewhere, 'Moving In' sees him pepper a slick, dreamy and kaleidoscopic groove with his own mesmerising piano improvisations, while 'The Phone Call' sees him wrap spacey synth solos around a typically infectious, stab-rich house groove.
