The Latest Ibadan Records, the third edition in their occasional "Leads & Bites" multi-artist series - certainly fits the bill. Label founder Jerome Sydenham is undoubtedly the star of the show. He first joins forces with Argy on a hypnotic late night Dub of basement-bothering big room workout "Whisper Track", before going solo on the off-kilter, minor key deep house brilliance of "Purple Beech". Over on side B he collaborates with Janne Tavi on the "Weekend"-sampling deep piano house flex of "Street Jazz", before layering up toasty Rhodes riffs and sweaty, cymbal heavy jazz-house beats on his "Raw Dub" of Herb Martin's "Soul Drums".
