Release description
For a brief period between 1999 and 2003, Los Angeles label Pacific Coast House Recordings released a swathe of heady, sun-soaked EPs that frequently blurred the boundaries between tech-house and deep house. The man behind the imprint was Sam Robson AKA The Coastal Commission, who started the story with the original version of this sought-after EP. Now reissued on orange vinyl (a nod to the look of the original pressing), it remains a true West Coast house gem. For proof, check out the awesome 'Rhodes in Space', where drifting, ambient style chords, spacey electronics and dubbed-out synth motifs ride a chunky bassline and smooth, tech-tinged deep house drums. Flip-side 'Straight No Chaser' explores similar sonic territory, offering food for the head, heart and feet via locked-in grooves and irresistibly immersive sound design.
