Release description
If you ask us, Abacus doesn't quite get the props he deserves. He's a key architect of the deep house sound that emerged from Chicago in the 90s and some of his jams are amongst the best the genre ever produced. First released in 1994 on Prescription Records, this EP is a quiet masterpiece. Austin Bascom delivered four tracks that favoured mood, space and emotional weight over fleeting trends. Warm, enveloping chords sit alongside scorched sub-bass and subtly futuristic textures at a time when house was splintering toward the mainstream. 'The Relics EP' remained resolutely underground, however, and earned cult status among DJs and dancers alike.
