Delano Smith is one of the absolute OGs of Detroit techno, active in the scene since the 80s but always half a step to the side of the spotlight. His sound has reached many different moods and intensities over the years, but this Detroit Lost Tapes collection on Sushitech has to rank amongst the finest things he's done. As you'd expect for Sushitech, who are re-releasing this album to help toast 15 years as a label, the mood is subtle and hypnotic, balanced somewhere between techno and house without going anywhere near tech house. Sleek, refined, hypnotic and soulful, this is Smith at his very best.
